Just because you perhaps work in a shitty office and building types( plus the fact it's hard to get hold of good blokes and a big shortfall)are hard to come by.
Don't for a minute think you're doing well.
With half a brain and graft I gaurentee you'd earn much better wedge in the current market:

It amazes me how I've read back through some threads and certain posters actually get paid to fuck about argueing on here all day every day.

As north bank said,the term builder covers a huge spectrum.Ive been working in building/construction for 25 years.
I've been involved for a good while specialising as a sub contractor on Reinforced Concrete Frames.
Our blokes (steel fixers and shuttering chippies)we try to keep hold of, most can read drawings and work 7.30 -5.00 in central London for £220 a day
Plus an easy Saturday morning 8am till 12.30 full shift paid.
So nearly £70 grand less 20% that's deducted before pay.
I know two sparks that have recently worked on rail jobs(Waterloo station being a recent one) both early 50's averaged £600 a day on price work not short tearm either.
There's great money in commercial building now if well organised.A company is only as good as their labour force that is constant.In London it depends on continuaty of work and familiarity to a much lesser extent buying materials at a the right price which amounts 3 -5 %
The huge problem is getting paid on time and finding finance.
First payment 60 days from start and not getting paid via a knock on effect happens all the time.
If anyone thinks the "building game" is easy and we're all having it off think again.
I don't reckon any good tradesmen post on here during an average day.

Most builders would be LTD which would a day rate pay about 12% max in April or UTR 20% monthly with a rebate claim in April
To quote 40k he must be PAYE which is fuck all in the building or railway game

I remember at an awards do once some clown who worked for someone like yellow pages of similar slinking over to the girls in or party to try and impress them with his £35k and 1 series bmw company car.
He got short change when the girl he was chatting up told him she was making £120k a year on a bad year so she can buy her own drinks.
